Interview with Mason

I recently had the chance to sit down and chat with Mason, the hero of From the Ashes.Rescuing a victim from a fire barely alive, only to discover she’s the love of your life that you haven’t seen for nearly a decade is enough of a shock. But then to discover she has no idea who you are? What on earth was that like and what are his plans next?

What was it like being in the middle of that massive warehouse fire at first?

At first it was terrifying. A building was burning to the ground behind me, the blazing fire consuming everything in its path as I ran toward it. The roaring flames and choking smoke flew all around but I still dove into the chaos. Lives were at stake and if there were any chance of saving them, I had to take it.The smoke and heat were overwhelming. But I had a duty to fulfil–no matter the cost, and I had to try and save anyone in side, no matter what. If anyone still was.

Do you still get moments of fear even after being a firefighter for years?

No two fires are the same and there’s always an element of danger. I’ve been a firefighter for long enough but that doesn’t make my any less scared of facing the next fire. You never know when your last fire will be. But that’s a good thing. It keeps you awake, fully aware. Every blaze is unique and wholly unknowable. You never know when danger might strike. I’ve become accustomed to the fear and use it to stay safe even against the worse odds.

What was it like seeing Sloane for the first time again after all those years?

I was floored and confused when I realised who I’d pulled from the fire. Encountering Sloane after all these years and then realising she didn’t even know who I was was a blow and I didn’t know how to process it at first. I was also concerned for her wellbeing, as she didn’t even remember her own name. It’s a strange situation and I’m still trying to make sense of it.

Did you think she might be faking the amnesia?

Absolutely not. I’ve seen cases of memory loss before and based on her behavior, I believe it’s real. She’s struggling and needs help. I’m committed to doing everything in my power I can to help her recover her memories.

Why would she have been in the middle of a fire in an empty warehouse?

What happened to her? That’s what I’m determined to uncover. Was it all an accident, or was someone behind it? Whatever the reason, I’m going to get to the bottom of this and make sure she’s safe and sound.

What about the fact she was found right at the back of the building, almost hidden away. Do you think someone could have put her there deliberately?

If I look at it purely as a first responder, I’d have to say the evidence points to only one conclusion. But the idea of that chills me to my bones and I don’t want to think someone could be out there deliberately wanting to hurt Sloane, after all she just went through already. However, her location in the building was definitely suspicious. It’s as if someone put her there on purpose to hide her away. I’m going to do some serious digging and see if I can find out what really happened.

Will you try and rekindle your relationship with her?

That’s her decision. It’s been a long time since we were together and both our lives have changed so much since then. Well, for Sloane I have to assume hers has. If I could just help her recover her memories then we might both know more.

But do you think you could both be in danger if she remembers what happens?

It’s a possibly but it’s a risk we have to take. If she remembers what happened and it was someone putting her in the building deliberately, then there’s a chance that we both could be in danger. I’m going to do my damnedest to make sure that doesn’t happen.

What will you do if you discover someone hurt her?

Whoever did this better watch their back. I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure justice is served. Sloane’s still my girl, no matter what, and I’ll make sure she doesn’t have to worry about anything else ever again. It’s my mission now to keep her safe.

And if she wants to be with you again?

If I’m fortunate enough to have her back in my life, I’ll embrace any opportunity. She was once my everything and I’ll take whatever I can get this time around, as a friend or a lover. I care about her and I want to make sure she’s safe and happy.

Even if she never remembers who she is?

Yes, even if she never remembers who she is. I will continue to support and care for her no matter what. My protection is the least I can give her.
